The kids are in the hall again

I've been wanting to touch on some comedy in this blog. To start, I guess we'll go to one of the touchstones of Canadian comedy, the Kids in the Hall -- or, more specifically, Bruce McCulloch.

Outside of the group, McCulloch put out two solo albums that are a mixture of comedy, spoken word, and music. There's definitely nothing traditional about it. The resulting "songs" are always bizarre, often funny, and sometimes surprisingly poignant.

And to make this post complete, here is a live version of "Having an Average Weekend" by Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet. The song was the very memorable theme music for the Kids in the Hall tv show.

Wow. Shadowy Men. I first heard that CD back in '92 or so. Ended up using the Kids in the Hall theme and one of the other tunes in a student film. Ah, those were the days....
